Building Rretaining Stone Wall

Retaining stone walls are not provide a beautiful and awesome setting in your landscaping, but it also serves a supportive purpose to the area. If you want to level off a sloping area to add patios, walkways and driveways, add a raised flower bed, or simply prevent soil erosion; building a retaining stone wall does the trick. Most retaining wall materials today are made to simplify the work of building a retaining stone wall.

The kind of building material you use for your retaining wall will depend on the size of your project. For smaller retaining wall projects, you can use pre-cast blocks with lip lock system, bricks, and even natural stones. Although there’s no substitute for natural stones’ charm, they need some degree of masonry skills to install. The pre-cask blocks you can get customized for your project is more recommended for beginners.

For lager projects intended to hold back larger volume of soil, poured concrete or larger stones should be used. But, poured concrete masonry doesn't look as elegant and sophisticated as flagstones, or precast modular blocks. You can even order pre-cast concrete blocks with your desired texture, design, and color. Moreover, larger retaining wall projects can't be done by you alone. You need to hire professional contractors because the workload needed is large.

Building a retaining stone wall allows you to construct useful structure in an otherwise mundane and useless sloping area. You can construct barbecue area, swimming pools, elegant looking stone walkways, virtually anything you can think of in your otherwise sloping area by leveling it off with retaining walls. The landscaping design possibilities you can make with retaining walls are endless - your imagination is your limit.

Before you proceed digging your backyard for trenches, however, ask your local building code regulator for permission because municipalities have regulations for building a retaining stone wall.
